Submission Guidelines

The New Zealand Veterinary Journal publishes reviews, scientific articles, state-of-the-art commentaries, rapid communications, clinical communications, short communications, and correspondence covering all aspects of veterinary science, animal welfare, and animal health aspects of animal science.

All scientific papers submitted for publication are independently refereed, regardless of source.

The median Receipt-to-Acceptance interval for papers submitted in the last 18 months is currently 166 days (5.4 months). Papers are published online and citable (with a DOI) as the Accepted Author Version within 3 weeks of acceptance. The median interval from Receipt-to-Publication in print is 265 days (8.5 months).

All submissions must include a reference list compiled in the NZVJ format according to our reference list template.

The submission process for authors has recently been simplified so that all manuscripts can be submitted electronically, with no requirement for paper copies. Manuscripts can be submitted electronically to the Editor at nzvj [at] vets [dot] org [dot] nz.
